Many couples start thinking about wedding photography soon after they get engaged, but may not realize that engagement sessions are a great way to document the special time in their lives. Engagement sessions allow couples a more intimate, casual experience to capture themselves as they look forward to their wedding.
A good location is essential in setting the tone for an engagement shoot and can serve as the perfect backdrop! Choosing a spot that fits into your story as a couple is a way to let the session be fun, expressive and genuine. I’ve compiled a list of my favorite locations throughout Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. I’d love to share my top 5 engagement shoot locations in the city of Philadelphia – in no particular order – for couples that are looking for an outdoor urban vibe!
Rittenhouse Square is a gorgeous public park in Center City Philadelphia. It’s one of my absolute favorite spots because the park is always lively and has beautiful architectural elements. Whether it’s summer or fall, the park has so many charming areas to capture a variety of unique and romantic portraits!
Fitler Square has a similar look and feel to Rittenhouse Square, yet differs because it feels more intimate as it’s a slightly smaller park. This is the perfect place if you are looking to sit back and capture some cozy moments. What also drew me to this hidden gem – is its proximity to Delancey Street ( another great location I’ve listed below)!
Washington Square is an open space park in the city’s Washington Square West neighborhood. This is a great inner city park with a great eclectic vibe. It’s well maintained and always looks inviting! I love this park because in the spring, the trees bloom so beautifully! This park does require a photography permit – whereas the other locations on this list don’t (at the time of this writing).
Chestnut Hill is a charming, cute little town that looks like Old City but feels more mellow. It reminds me of Stars Hollow – a fictional town in “Gilmore Girls” – one of my all-time favorite shows. There are so many vibrant streets and buildings to set the mood for a colorful and fun photo session!
Delancey Street is a stunner of a street! It feels like Upper West Side, New York. Doesn’t it look it?! It makes me think of that breathtaking street that Meg Ryan’s character lives on in the film “You’ve Got Mail”. The colors, the architecture, the doors – wow! This must be the most romantic street ever!
